Ebony fingerboard bindings

All our instruments have luxurious bound fingerboards. In order to remove plastic from an all wood instrument, we are now using ebony for the fingerboard bindings on every instrument we make. We select those pieces of ebony with a little "colour" to emphasis the natural material, the ebony is lacquered, polished and gently blended into the neck shape and fret ends for a wonderfully smooth feel and playing action.

Its worth noting that at Fylde we have put a lot of thought into fret ends. We like to leave the playing surface of the fret as long as possible, not filed and rounded off to nothing, like electric guitars, This way, the strings have less chance off falling off the fingerboard edge and can be spaced a little wider in the nut to gain extra finger room even without a wide neck.
