Fylde Guitars Christmas Concert 2025
Good evening!
Thank you everybody for fighting your way through the snow tonight, you can leave your wellies at the door and dry your socks on the radiators if you wish, we’ve turned the heating up for you, and we will be taking a collection at the interval in order to help pay for it.
We have a really splendid concert for you tonight, most of the artists performing this evening have travelled a long way to be here, they have been practising for many minutes and in some cases, even longer than that.
Settle down please, late comers do try and reach your seat without disturbing the rest of the audience.
To start things off for us and set the scene for what’s to come, I hand you over to our good friend, Tristan Seume, who I believe will also be displaying the sheet music for those of you who want to play along.
So, a big round of applause for …
Tristan Seume. It's beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
It certainly is Tris; I can almost hear the Reindeer outside the door.
Tris has brought our good friend Gordon along with him.
Gordon Giltrap. A Christmas Carol
Thank you, Gordon, always good to hear you playing as well as ever and such a sweet tune.
Our next guest is becoming a regular and valued visitor
George Sansome. The First of December
George tells me this is an English tune from a 1775 book titled “Two Hundred and Four Favourite Country Dances”. So, he only has 203 to go. That should be enough to keep the newsletter going George.
To close the first half of this evening’s concert, Will McNicol has prepared some seasonal treats which you can collect from the open fire he is tending outside, as fire regulations don’t allow open fires inside the building.
Will McNicol. Chestnuts Roasting on an Open fire
Thank you Will, very tasty. And the music!
What splendid music we’ve heard so far, and there is more to come!
We shall now have a fifteen-minute interval, mulled wine is available in the foyer to go with the chestnuts, and don’t forget to buy your raffle tickets, all proceeds to go to our usual charities.
INTERVAL
I hope you are now nicely warmed up and ready for the rest of the concert. We’ll start off with a little visit from our time machine, a well-known song that Megan recorded in 2011 and is still beautiful today.
Megan Henwood. Walking in the air
Thank you, Megan, we are so lucky to have such talented and supportive friends.
Next, we have one of the most famous of modern Christmas Anthems.
Ben Walker. A Fairytale of New York
Excellent, well played Ben.
Ben will be taking delivery of his new guitar very soon, so I think he was keen to make an impression .
For the next song, Julie and Chris along with Chris Leslie will lead us in a song we all know.
St Agnes Fountain. Good King Wenceslas
Oh well sung everybody!! The harmonies were superb.
Now I’m afraid its time for the final song of the evening. David Holmes has brought along two lovely singers for one of our most well-loved Christmas Carols.
Please welcome – David Holmes, Lottie Day and Kirsty Hughes.
That was unforgettable.
Thank you, David, for bringing the evening to an end in such a lovely way and thank you of course to Lottie and Kirsty.
Once again - A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
So that I’m afraid brings us to the end of this year’s concert, wasn’t it fun?
It’s been a good year. In amongst a very uncertain and troubling world, music is one of the things that makes it bearable.
Thank you to everybody for coming tonight, safe travels, see you in 2026!
Roger, Moira, Alex and Paul
